My White Whale…
When I started getting serious about learning to become a photographer, I tried to combine my day job with my hobby. My day job consists of shooting video and photos of the county in New York I live in. We have plenty of wineries and breweries, as well as museums and lakes, to take photos of. Hiking trails are popular places to go around here and while you’re walking on one, you might come across a sighting of my white whale. Not so much a whale but a bird. America’s bird. As popular as they are in this part of the United States, the Bald Eagle has always managed to evade me and my camera. I have yet to take a ‘Good’ shot of this bird.
I think it would make for great promotional content at work, but personally, I just have wanted a good photo that I took of a Bald Eagle. If you're from here, this may have you laughing, because you’ve seen one a hundred times. For some reason, they just always know where and when I’m looking for them. Sneaky bastards.
These are the closest shots I’ve been able to get in the early months of 2024. I’m actually standing very far away, using a 100-400mm lens extended all the way to 400mm.
Stay tuned and one day I might get the shot I’ve been dreaming of.
This shot is of an eagle in a tree, which stands in the middle of the Chemung River in Corning, NY. I wish I could have moved closer, but I’m standing on the rivers edge.
